Sensory Garden
Created in Spring 2024, our Sensory Garden provides a multi-sensory experience for visitors designed to stimulate the five senses – sight, sound, touch, taste, and smell. The Garden was designed and funded by our key partner, Groundwork Greater Manchester. Volunteers from local residents and schools planted over 500 natural specimens and hundreds of bulbs which will provide a variety of colour, texture, and shapes to create a visual interest alongside the circulatory footpath and Nature Trail. Keep a special eye out for Rana the Frog
Here are some key benefits of our Sensory Garden:
- Enhanced Sensory Stimulation: By engaging all five senses, our Sensory Garden offers a rich, immersive experience. This can be particularly beneficial for individuals with sensory processing disorders, helping them to engage with their environment in a controlled and enjoyable way.
- Educational Opportunities: Our Sensory Garden can be used as an educational tool, teaching children and visitors about different plants, animals, and ecological systems.
- Therapeutic Benefits: Interacting with nature and stimulating the senses can have therapeutic effects, such as reducing stress, anxiety, and depression. The Sensory Garden can be used in therapeutic settings for physical, occupational, and speech therapy.
- Encouraging Outdoor Activity: The Sensory Garden encourages people to spend time outdoors, promoting physical activity and a connection with nature. This can improve physical health and overall wellbeing.
- Promoting Mindfulness: The focus on sensory experiences encourages mindfulness, helping visitors to be present in the moment and fully engage with their surroundings. This can enhance mental clarity and emotional stability.
- Social Interaction: The Sensory Garden can foster social interaction and community engagement. It provides a space for group activities, educational programs, and family outings.
- Cognitive Development: For children, the Sensory Garden can support cognitive development by encouraging exploration, curiosity, and learning through direct interaction with the environment.
Overall, our Sensory Garden offers a unique way to experience nature and promote health and wellbeing through multi-sensory engagement.
